Utah State Women's Soccer Earns First-Ever Regional Ranking

Utah State [University] women's soccer continues to make history by earning its first-ever National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA) West Region ranking which was announced Tuesday [Aug. 30]. The Aggies were ranked ninth in the most recent West Region Poll.

Last week, the Aggies made history by starting the season 4-0-0 for the first time ever. Utah State captured road wins last week against Colorado College and Northern Colorado.

This week, Utah State begins a four-match homestand against Utah Friday, Sept. 2, at 4 p.m. The Utah Youth Soccer Association will hold clinics prior to the match. Both the Utah State and Utah soccer teams will sign autographs following the match.

The Aggies are 2-10 against Utah in their 12 meetings. Last season, the Utes edged Utah State, 2-1, in Salt Lake City. Lauren Hansen provided the offense for the Aggies in the loss. The last time that Utah State defeated Utah was in 2009 when Shantel Flanary's golden goal gave USU the 2-1 win at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah.

There are two other Utah State opponents that earned West Region rankings, BYU and Western Athletic Conference foe Fresno State. USU takes on BYU Thursday, Sept. 22. The Aggies end the season in Logan Sunday, Oct. 30, against the Bulldogs.

UC Irvine took the top spot in the West Region ranking, followed by Pepperdine. Both teams are 4-0-0 this season.
