Utah State Gymnastics travels to Boise, Idaho, for the Western Gymnastics Conference Championships

2004 Utah State Univesity Gymnastics TeamUtah State gymnastics will travel to Boise, Idaho, for the Western Gymnastics Conference Championships Friday, March 19. Please note that this is a change from the previously scheduled date of March 20.

LAST WEEKEND - Utah State scored a season-best 196.225, but fell short to #15 BYU which scored a 198.025 last Saturday. Gretchen Goerlitz recorded a 39.400 in the all-around, which is the best all-around performance for any Aggie gymnast this season. Monday night, Utah State fell short to #18 Denver by a score of 197.100 to 195.450. The Aggies recorded their best floor performance in school history with a 49.550. Goerlitz and Kohler both scored a 9.950 on the floor.

LOOKING AT THE WGC- Southern Utah has a 195.900-195.730 edge over USU for the lead in the conference. The two teams are nationally ranked 28th and 30th respectively. Boise State is third in the conference with a Regional Qualifying Score of 194.950, while Cal State Fullerton is last with an RQS of 192.835. USU has defeated each team in the region at least one time, with its only conference loss coming at Boise State on Jan. 30. USU has won its conference four times, but finished fourth last year.

HOW UTAH STATE RANKS - Utah State is currently #30 in the country and #8 in the North Central Region. It needs to pass Southern Utah and Minnesota to claim the sixth and final spot to qualify for regionals. Alex Martin leads the conference on the bars and ranks #8 in the region. She is also ranked #14 in the region in the all-around. Gretchen Goerlitz leads the conference on the floor and is #8 in the region. Liesel Kohler is #17 on beam and #19 on floor in the region.Stacy Stewart is #20 on the beam in the region.
