Women's Tennis Takes Home 3 Championships at Washington State Invite

Utah State women's tennis concluded Day 3 at the Washington State Invite, taking home three championship titles.

In singles, Zara Ryan finished as the runner up in her flight after losing to Washington's Melisa Ates, 4-6, 3-6 in the championship match. Annaliese County beat Washington's Maddie Egan in her flight's championship match, only dropping two games, 6-0, 6-2, en route to the title.

"It was great to see Annaliese play at the level she is capable of," head coach Sean McInerney said. "She moved well and did a great job controlling the match, I am really proud of her."

Carolina Millan defeated her own teammate, Sidnee Lavatai, in an all-Aggie final in their draw, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

"Carolina had an amazing weekend going a perfect 8-0," McInerney said. "She played composed, with purpose, and will only continue to get better."

In other singles action, Lucy Octave defeated Gonzaga's Tamara Anderson, 6-2, 6-2. Hannah Jones beat Montana's Lauren Dunlap, 6-1, 6-2. Gabrielle Dekkers fell short to Gonzaga's Hartuna Tsuruta, 0-6, 4-6. Reneta Lombera defeated Montana's Maria Goheen, 6-2, 6-3.

In doubles, Octave and County lost to Washington's Hikaru Sato and Melisa Ates, 0-6, in the championship match. In another flight, Millan and Lombera defeated Washington's Savanna Ly-Nguyen and Carla Quadflieg, 7-5, as Millan added a doubles title in addition to her title in singles.

"Renata (Lombera) and Carolina (Millan) played with the personality we need to beat good teams in doubles, and beat a very good pair from Washington State," McInerney said. "Renata had a great weekend going 7-1, and I am excited about the player she is going to become at Utah State."

In other doubles action, Ryan and Dekkers defeated Gonzaga's Tamara Anderson and Haruna Tsuruta, 7-5, while Jones and Lavatai lost in a close tiebreak to Montana's Julia Ronney and Lauren Dunlap, 6-7 (4).

"This was a great weekend for us and showed some of our strengths but also exposed some of our weaknesses," McInerney said. "We are excited to take this and work on it moving forward."
