Bruce, a resident of West Point, UT, recently used the Utah Assistive Technology Program low interest loan program to buy a wheelchair accessible van.

In January of 2023, Pamela, Bruce’s wife, suffered a debilitating stroke, leaving her paralyzed on her left side. It’s been a long recovery process for them, with difficulty leaving the house and expensive rides to the doctors' offices. One 5-mile trip to transport Pamela cost over $150.

Through the UATP low interest loan program, the couple was able to buy an accessible van that will make travel much easier.

“It’s really going to help us transport her,” said Bruce. She’ll be able to go watch our grandkids, doing plays at school.” To Pamela and Bruce, the van will be life-changing.

Bruce found the loan application process quick and easy. While the process can take up to two weeks, he was able to get approved within five hours. "Wow, it was a miracle.”

The low interest loan system is unique in that the UATP will cover 2% of the interest on the loan. They are available for any Utah resident requiring use of assistive technology for a disability.

While Bruce and Pamela were able to get a loan for their van, the loans can be used for a variety of needs, such as home modification, hearing aids, communication devices, and more.
