During the visit, students were introduced to service professions and learned how cosmetologists help clients feel confident and cared for after completing a service.

The tour continued into the School of Manufacturing, where the machining and welding departments highlighted two different hands-on career paths. A tour guide explained that machining is ideal for people who enjoy precision and attention to detail. Students enjoyed this part of the tour because they got to take home a 3D printed frisbee. In the welding department, the large warehouse space impressed students, who enjoyed viewing elaborate metal statues created by welding students.

Students also explored health profession programs offered at Davis Technical College. They learned they can become a “jack of all trades" with a medical assisting certificate, while the surgery assisting profession is “intense but rewarding.” A simulated ambulance allows students to see how emergency medical technicians train.

Many students said their favorite part of the tour was seeing the big trucks and learning about careers that require a commercial driver’s license, giving them a glimpse into an in-demand field.
