Our GEAR UP students have many free resources available to them. One of the best examples of this is our educational partnership with Tutor.com. The program allows students to connect to a live tutor in an online classroom at any time for one-on-one help with homework, studying, test prep, proofreading, and more.

We value our long-standing partnership with Tutor.com, and want to make sure that schools and students know about the services offered. Tutor.com is available 24/7 to help make the learning process go more smoothly for students in high school and college. It is also a great resource for teachers.

“Tutor.com has been a phenomenal resource for our students,” said Teri Dial, site coordinator at Granger High School in the Granite School District“It is so great to see the excited faces of our kids who have tried Tutor.com and realize what a valuable tool it is for them!”

Students can connect on demand or via scheduled sessions with rigorously vetted expert tutors, who provide support in more than 200 subjects, many of which are available in Spanish as well. Tutoring is available via text-chat or two-way voice in a secure, collaborative online classroom. Tutor.com additionally offers an array of test prep resources from The Princeton Review.

With the start of a new school year, we want to remind our schools that by logging in through our tutor.com portal, students can access a variety of homework help and academic support tools.

To get started, your student will need your username and password, which should be available from the GEAR UP Site Coordinator or a College Advisor. Simply log on from any device that has an internet connection and a web browser; it can be a computer, laptop, tablet or phone.

“Our goal is to strengthen the learning communities we serve as we help them identify sustainable resources that really affect student outcomes,” said Monique Squire, program coordinator of Grant 4 in the Granite School District GEAR UP Program. “Being able to share Tutor.com data with our school partners, and witnessing its impact on student confidence and success, makes a big difference.”

A recent article by Tutor.com about our partnership said that our students engage with tutors most often during after-school hours. The subjects most widely requested include calculus, ACT® test prep, Python (a computer programming language), algebra I and II, geometry, and physics. The online workspace includes many helpful tools to support the tutoring session, such as a graphing calculator, a text editor, a collaborative whiteboard, a computer code editor, and file sharing.

Tutor.com’s writing center service is also extremely popular. Learners can access live help, or utilize asynchronous writing review and receive detailed feedback within a day. USU STARS! GEAR UP encourages students to drop off not only coursework for review, but also resumes, scholarship application responses, and college admission essays.
