Seventy-three 11th grade students from six high schools in the Granite School District – Cyprus, Hunter, Cottonwood, Granger, Taylorsville, and Kearns – attended SnowBlast at Snow College on April 14-15, 2023.

SnowBlast is an overnight program that allows high school students to experience campus life before starting college. Students had the opportunity to stay with a Snow College Ambassador and see what college life is like. They enjoyed a campus tour, dinner and breakfast, and a Snow College activity.

“I think my favorite part was the people,” said one student. “Everyone was having a good time.” Other students enjoyed “getting to see the campus and a feel for college life.” Many students stated that the event motivated them to attend college after high school.

Campus visits help students understand the different activities available on a college campus, giving them an idea of whether they will fit in and make friends. They also learn about admissions, financial aid, clubs, and other activities that make a campus welcoming to students.

Granite School District GEAR UP would like to express their gratitude to the educational partners, including the Granite Education Foundation and Scheels Sporting Goods, for donating sleeping bags to all 73 participants. Transportation was provided by GEAR UP through coach buses, ensuring a safe trip to and from Snow College.
