Specimen Nasal swab, EDTA (purple top) blood tube, brain stem, spinal cord, or lung
Special Instructions Keep samples refrigerated. Whole blood samples should be kept at refrigeration temps at all times or may be unusable for PCR. Use Overnight shipping methods. Swabs with plastic shafts are recommended, as swabs with wooden shafts may contain PCR inhibitors. Do not submit swabs in bacterial culture media/culturette tubes, as these may also contain PCR inhibitors. Large accessions (>10 specimens) may result in an increased turnaround time.
