| Description |
Detection of Leptospira spp. by real-time PCR. |
| Sampling Requirements |
Urine collection: Antibiotic treatment will negatively affect PCR ability to detect leptospires. Bacteria may not be present in urine until 7 days post-illness. Collect mid-stream urine, preferably after administration of a diuretic. Store samples in refrigerator until shipment. Ship samples on ice overnight to the lab, in order to reach the lab 24-48hr post collection. **If less than 2ml of urine is received, the test will be completed, but there will be a disclaimer on the report stating that less than the required amount of sample was used to complete this test.** |
