Submit minimum of 0.5ml serum for testing. If you do not have a centrifuge, you can submit whole blood in a sterile, no additive tube (ex – red top tube or centrifuge tube) and the lab will centrifuge upon receipt and collect serum. The plate test is a screening test and can result in false positives. All samples that test suspect or positive will be sent to another laboratory for the tube agglutination assay. Pullorum/Typhoid is a reportable disease and all positives will be reported to the Utah State Veterinarian and USDA. Please call the UVDL for more information on this assay and NPIP qualification testing. |

| Packing Instructions |
- Label all samples with unique identifiers
- For multiple samples, number tubes consecutively using a permanent marker or adhesive label
- Place the tubes in consecutive numerical order in cardboard boxes designated for tubes
- Do not submit loose in bags
- Include a list of sample names/numbers or the Excel specimen import spreadsheet with submittal form
- Use cold packs during hot weather, especially if shipping serum samples on the clot
- Overnight shipping is recommended
