Please contact your local/state veterinarian before sampling and submitting samples to the UVDL. Specific foreign animal disease investigation (FADI) and collection procedures must be followed before the test can be performed. Place swab in a maximum of 3 mL oftris-buffered tryptose broth (TBTB). Swabs must have plastic shafts. No swabs with wooden shafts or bacteriology swabs in a gel/foam media (e.g. culturette). This is a National Animal Health Network protocol designed to detect New Jersey and Indiana subtypes of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) in equids. Positive samples are notifiable to the State Veterinarian and the USDA. All positive samples are submitted to the National Veterinary Services Laboratory (NVSL) for confirmatory testing. |
