Special Instructions Samples should be less than 24 hours old. Refrigerate whole blood after collection. Please submit 1-2 slides if delivery to lab will exceed 24 hours. Include CBC data, including instrument histograms or cytograms if available, to allow corroboration with film (may email data to uvdl@usu.edu). Whole blood submitted before weekends/holidays will have impacted results due to shipping and business hours.
Description Microscopic review of freshly prepared blood film including WBC differential, morphology, and hemoparasite exam. Due to a lack of on-site Clinical Pathologist, test is forwarded to TVMDL.
Sampling Requirements EDTA whole blood <24 hours old
Collection Container Purple top tube (EDTA)
Packing Instructions Label all samples with unique identifiers. Ship overnight on cold pack.
