| Sampling requirements | Collect serum from clotted blood in a non-additive tube (e.g., plain red top or serum separator). When possible, transfer clear serum off the clot into a new tube. Excessively hemolyzed samples are unacceptable. |

| Packing instructions | Label all tubes with unique identifiers. Place tubes in numerical order in boxes designed to hold tubes. Do not submit large numbers of tubes loose in bags. Include a list of sample numbers or e-mail an Excel spreadsheet with numbers to the laboratory (UVDL@usu.edu). Use cold packs during hot weather, especially if shipping serum samples on the clot. Overnight shipping recommended. |
