The Old West thrives in Beaver County, known for its colorful history, diverse geography, incredible outdoor recreation areas, small town charm, and friendly, neighborly people. Beaver County has a strong agricultural tradition while also being home to a large renewable energy development. Because grassroots is key to long-term societal change in the Bolder Way Forward (BWF) Framework, a BWF Five-County Coalition including Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Kane, and Washington Counties amplifies the efforts in all the counties and brings the BWF message to every city, town, business, neighborhood, and family.  Since the “whole is greater than the sum of the parts,” we look at individuals and organizations currently doing the work in each spoke, or focus area, and elevate existing efforts. By lifting women and girls, we lift all residents.

What Can I Do?

In 2024, Beaver County Leaders gathered to discuss how to strengthen the impact of girls and women locally – read details here. Highlights included:

  • Parents in Beaver County were recognized as one of the most powerful influences on the lives of their daughters.
  • Leaders emphasized the essential role schools play in developing leadership, confidence, and competence in girls and young women and the essential role graduating from college plays in a woman’s life.
  • Attendees agreed on the importance of involving girls and women in civic activities and getting support from government in Beaver County, as well as local cities and towns.
  • Concern over the mental health and emotional wellbeing of girls and women emerged as a primary theme.
  • Participants were concerned about the limitations and decreased value culture (why and how we do what we do) has placed on women and girls.

When we listen and respond to concerns regarding the needs of girls and women in Beaver County, we will be better able to change harmful or ineffective policies and programs, continue effective action, support effective leaders, identify and solve local problems, and create responsive initiatives.
