Rich County
Rich County is the most northeastern county in the state of Utah with slightly over 2,500 residents making it the third-least populous county in Utah. Its county seat is Randolph, and the largest town is Garden City. Bear Lake brings thousands of visitors to the County each year. Because grassroots is key to long-term societal change in the Bolder Way Forward Framework, the Rich County Coalition strives to bring the BWF message to each town, business, neighborhood, and family within the county. The County Coalition is part of the BWF Northwest Regional Coalition including Rich, Cache, Box Elder, and Tooele Counties which together amplify the efforts in the region. Since the “whole is greater than the sum of the parts,” the Coalition looks at who is currently doing the work in each spoke, or focus area, and what programs and efforts already support women and families in Rich County. By lifting women and girls in our county, we lift all residents.
Key Resources
What Can I Do?
In 2024, Rich County Leaders gathered to discuss how to strengthen the impact of girls and women locally – read details here. Highlights included:
- Increasing awareness of opportunities that exist for girls (e.g., afterschool clubs, 4-H, extracurricular activities, and sports). Utilizing resources to provide safety and community for young women.
- Building examples of historical and local women who have succeeded in a variety of fields and settings into K-12 curriculum.
- Developing robust curriculum regarding healthy relationships for both boys and girls. Include prevention lessons on sexual abuse and trafficking, collaborating with community nonprofits.
- Recognizing more women in leadership in churches, schools, and other settings so girls and young women can see themselves as leaders in the community and professionally.
- Engage and support organizations that sponsor educational programs about where and how to turn for help with sexual assault and domestic violence (e.g., support, housing, and resources) so that community members can recover and eventually thrive.
When we listen and respond to concerns regarding the needs of girls and women in Rich County, we will be better able to change harmful or ineffective policies and programs, continue effective action, support effective leaders, identify and solve local problems, and create responsive initiatives.
