February 2026 Newsletter
February Newsletter for the Utah Women & Leadership Project at Utah State University.
Colleagues,
I have a number of Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) announcements for April:
First, we are pleased to announce the release of a new research and policy brief titled “The Impact of COVID-19 on Utah Women and Work: Changes, Burnout, & Hope.” Thanks to my co-researchers Drs. Jared Hansen and Chris Hartwell (Jon M. Huntsman School of Business) for their fabulous work on this brief. This brief is the first in a series of related reports that will be released in upcoming months.
Second, our next virtual event is for men (and women too): “Rising Athenas, Male Allies, and the Power of Gender Partnership.” The event will be held on April 9 from noon-1:15pm. Drs. David Smith and Brad Johnson, authors and global experts, are the speakers. They will make the business case for male engagement in gender equality, showing why men are often absent from gender equity work and why genuine equity is good for both men and women. Using social science evidence and extensive interviews, they will provide the “how to” for men, women, and organizational leaders who want to be intentional and inclusive allies, leveraging mentorship, sponsorship, and workplace partnership to create a more diverse workforce. Thanks to the Huntsman School of Business, the Utah Education Network, and Utah Public Radio for sponsoring this event.
Third, I will be facilitating a workshop titled “Designing Corporate Women’s Networks, Initiatives, and Leadership Programs” on April 16 from 8:00am-11:00am. Based on the latest research, it is designed specifically for company leaders and representatives who are interested in creating, designing, developing, or restructuring women’s networks, groups, programs, and/or other initiatives in their organizations. There are still a few seats left for this offering.
Fourth, we have released a new video titled “When Women Don’t Speak: What It Takes for Women To be Heard.” Drs. Jessica Preece and Christopher Karpowitz present their groundbreaking research that shows what it takes for a woman to truly be heard. This engaging presentation provides tips and strategies that can help all people understand what it takes for women to be heard and viewed as influential.
Fifth, here are some of our partners’ upcoming events:
