February 2021 Newsletter

Colleagues,

We, at the Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP), have a number of announcements for February:

First, we are pleased to announce the release of a new research and policy brief titled “The Status of Women in Utah Politics: A 2021 Update.” Thanks to the lead researchers Hannah Payne and Marin Christensen for their fabulous work on this brief.

Second, we have five free virtual events coming up in February, March, and April (RSVP online), sponsored by the Huntsman School of Business and the Utah Education Network:

  1. What Is Your Money Personality Type? (Feb. 11, Noon-1:00pm; Speaker Amanda H. Christensen; also sponsored by Utah Money Moms, the Utah Financial Empowerment Coalition, & my529)
  2. Stopping Violence Against Utah Girls & Women (Feb. 17, Noon-1:15pm; Panelists: Liliana Olvera-Arbon, Chris Yadon, Dr. Annie Isabel Fukushima, and Jennifer Campbell)
  3. More Than a Body: Building Body Image Resilience (Feb. 25, 6:00pm-7:15pm; Speakers: Drs. Lindsay and Lexie Kite)
  4. When Women Don’t Speak: What It Takes for Women To be Heard (Mar. 12, Noon-1:15pm; Panelists: Drs. Jessica Preece and Christopher F. Karpowitz)
  5. Rising Athenas, Male Allies, and the Power of Gender Partnership (Apr. 9, Noon-1:15pm; Panelists: Drs. David Smith and Brad Johnson, Authors and Global Experts)

Third, we have released a new video titled “A Fireside Chat with Sheri Dew on Women and Leadership.” In this engaging fireside chat, Sheri Dew responded to my questions about her own leadership development journey and provided her insights and perspectives on why, where, and how women today are needed to influence, impact, and lead in all settings. We would also like to highlight a 2019 UWLP event video of Jane Clayson Johnson speaking about “Silent Souls Weeping: Emerging from Depression with Strength & Hope.”
