January 2021 Newsletter

Colleagues,

We hope you had a wonderful holiday season. Here are a number of announcements for January from the Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP):

First, we are pleased to announce the release of a new research and policy brief titled “Perceptions of Women Elected Officials in Utah: Challenges, Benefits, and Lessons Learned.” Thanks to the lead researchers, Rep. Candice Pierucci and Dr. April Townsend, for their fabulous work on this in-depth qualitative study of Utah women who serve in local and state elected positions.

Second, we have three free virtual events coming up in January and February (RSVP online), sponsored by the Huntsman School of Business and the Utah Education Network:

  1. A Fireside Chat with Sheri Dew on Women and Leadership (Jan. 22, Noon-1:00pm)
  2. What Is Your Money Personality Type? (Feb. 11, Noon-1:00pm; Speaker Amanda H. Christensen; also sponsored by Utah Money Moms & the Utah Financial Empowerment Coalition)
  3. Stopping Violence Against Utah Girls & Women (Feb. 17, Noon-1:15pm; Panelists: Liliana Olvera-Arbon, Chris Yadon, Dr. Annie Isabel Fukushima, and Jennifer Campbell)

Third, the Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) is conducting an extensive, in-depth study on the impact of COVID-19 on Utah women in the workplace. We welcome all Utah women age 20 or older who are either currently employed or unemployed due to the pandemic. The survey will take 20-30 minutes to complete. My contact information is below if you have any questions (USU IRB 11671). You can participate by clicking here.

Fourth, we have released a new 4-part webinar series titled “Understanding Gender: An In-Depth Exploration for Educators & Parents.” These one-hour webinars (and accompanying resources) introduces parents, educators, and other influencers to research studies focused on the biological and socialized distinctions between genders. Thanks to the Utah Education Network (UEN) for their partnership on developing and launching this curriculum.
