November 2021 Newsletter

Colleagues,

I have a number of Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) announcements for November:

First, we are pleased to announce the release of a new research and policy brief titled “Sexist Comments & Responses: Study Introduction and Overview.” Thanks to my co-researchers Robbyn Scribner and Dr. April Townsend for their fabulous work on this brief. This is the first brief in a series of five on this topic; these should be great tools for women and men. In addition, a few weeks ago we released a research snapshot titled, “Voting and Civic Engagement Among Utah Women: A 2021 Update” (with Candice Pierucci and Robbyn Scribner) and an accompanying infographic.

Second, we have one last event coming up this semester (we’ll launch our winter/spring line up next month): Strengthening Your Emotional Health as Women (Nov. 12, Noon-1:15pm, Virtual; panelists are all therapists: Dr. Julie Hanks, Tiffany Roe, and Melanie Davis)

Third, in partnership with Utah Public Radio, we bring you the “Understanding Gender” podcast series, where I share research that focuses on how understanding gender differences can actually help us raise girls—and boys for that matter—to be more confident and competent. The UWLP has a full curriculum series on “Understanding Gender” more broadly, so this is just a taste. There are three episodes in the series: It’s in Our Genes; Sight, Sound, Smell, and Communication; and Risk, Confidence, and Empathy.

Fourth, we have released two new event videos:

Fifth, here are some of our partners’ upcoming events:

Finally, check out the following editorials and articles from the last month:

Join us on the UWLP social media platforms: LinkedInFacebookTwitterInstagram, and YouTube. See the community calendar as well. Email uwlp@usu.edu to let us know you want to receive these updates to your own inbox if you received a forwarded email.

Enjoy November!
