Colleagues,

I have a number of Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) announcements for October:

First, we are pleased to announce the release of a new white paper titled “Women-Owned Businesses in Utah: Status, Challenges, and Opportunities” (with Dr. April Townsend). We partnered with the Women’s Business Center of Utah on this research. Additionally, we released a research and policy brief a few weeks ago titled “Understanding the Gender Gap in Utah Higher Education: Quantitative Findings” (with Dr. Sojung Lim, Claudia Wright, and Dr. Emily S. Darowski). Thanks to everyone involved in these publications.

Second, we have four free events coming up in the Fall (RSVP online):

1. UWLP Book Club: How Women Rise By Sally Helgesen & Marshall Goldsmith (Two-session book club: Oct. 6 & Nov. 10, 12:00pm-1:00pm or 7:30pm-8:30pm; Virtual)
2. Effecting Societal Change for Child Sexual Abuse (Symposium: Oct. 26, 8:00am-11:30am; Virtual and in-person at Saprea in Lehi, UT)
3. Hacks to Help Women Maximize Income and Minimize Expenses (Workshop with Vincenza Vicari-Bentley: Nov. 9, Noon-1:00pm; Virtual)
4. Biases, Barriers, & Barricades for Utah Women: A Solutions-Based Workshop (Partners Workshop, The Policy Project: Nov. 15, 12:00pm-2:00pm; Sandy, UT)

Third, we have a few resources to highlight this month:

• New Podcast Episodes (with Utah Public Radio): Suicide Among Utah Girls and Women and The Status & Experiences of Utah Pacific Islander Women
• Event Video: The Status & Experiences of Utah Women of Color

Fourth, we have just released a new video series titled “Career Exploration for Girls & Women.” The focus of the series is to help girls and young women learn about different career paths and options. The series has 35-minute videos about the following professions: Banking, Engineering, Law, Local Government, Nonprofit, Sports, Teaching, and Therapy.
