December 2024 Newsletter

Colleagues,

Good morning! I have a number of Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) announcements for December:

First, we are pleased to announce the release of a new research and policy brief titled “The Status of Women Leaders in Government – Utah Cities and Towns: A 2024 Update.” Thanks to my co-authors Dr. April Townsend and Kolene Anderson for their fabulous work on this brief.

Second, we have a workshop coming up on January 23 titled “Designing Corporate Women’s Networks, Initiatives, and Leadership Programs.” It is designed specifically for company representatives who are interested in creating, designing, developing, or restructuring women’s networks, groups, programs, and/or other initiatives in their organizations. Based on the latest research, I will teach attendees about the types of efforts, programs, and designs have been showed to be effective in supporting and advancing women in workplace settings. The afternoon will consist of engaging presentations, small group conversations, participant sharing, and individual activities. We have limited seating. Cost: $99 plus Eventbrite fees.

Third, we have a few resources to highlight this month:

• UWLP Podcast Episodes (with Utah Public Radio): The Status of Women Leaders in Utah Business: A 2024 Update and Gender-Specific Barriers to Educational Attainment for Utah Secondary School Students
• What Utahns Need to Know (2-pagers): Organizational Strategies & Workplace Culture, Political & Civic Representation, Poverty & Homelessness, and Sexual Harassment & Gender-Based Discrimination (you can use these to have conversations with co-workers, neighbors, etc. about these topics!)
