A Fireside Chat with Gail Miller: Making a Difference

Panel Discussion/Presentation

This webinar focuses on one woman leader who has made a difference in Utah and beyond for decades. Dr. Susan R. Madsen will interview Gail Miller, co-founder and owner of the Larry H. Miller Company and chair of the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation. Considered a female pioneer in the business world, Gail credits her mother for teaching her what courage is, a lesson she would lean on after Larry’s death in 2009. Gail became the leader of more than 80 companies, the family foundation, and even had the final say on who played on the Utah Jazz. Her courage, vision, and commitment to making a difference have amplified the Larry H. Miller Company’s legacy of business leadership, community building, and philanthropic giving throughout the state. Gail will share inspiring lessons she has learned from her unexpected journey. She will also share why she believes women have more opportunities than ever before to excel in business. Finally, Gail will share her thoughts on what it means to “live your life on purpose,” and how being intentional with resources, talents, and passion can be a catalyst for making a difference in the lives of others, and especially in your own.

A Bolder Way Forward: Updates and Next Steps

Panel Discussion/Presentation

National and statewide studies continue to show that women and girls in Utah are not thriving in critical areas. Although the needle has moved slightly in a few areas, with its current trajectory it will take three or four decades to make notable progress. A BWF was launched in June 2023 to shake things up in Utah and make critical changes that are needed much faster. The primary aim of BWF is to help more Utah women, girls, and their families thrive. Utah women and girls thrive when all aspects of their safety, security, health, and wellbeing are met, allowing them to explore and pursue educational, professional, civic, leadership, and other opportunities according to their interests, and to feel abundant levels of support and a sense of belonging as they do so. Utah is struggling significantly in many of these areas, and that is simply unacceptable! Join Dr. Susan Madsen and others involved in the movement to learn about the progress that has been made, its current state, what is planned for the remainder of Year 2, and how to get involved in this meaningful work. When we lift Utah girls and women, we lift all Utahns!
