FAQ

General Questions

How do I make an appointment?

Schedule your appointment at WC Online.

Who can visit the Writing Center?

Any USU student or employee is welcome to visit the Writing Center, free of charge, for any piece of writing—academic or personal.

How will my teacher know I’ve been to the Writing Center?

At the end of each session, your tutor will send out an email form to you, detailing what you talked about during your session. You will need to forward this email to your instructor or upload a screenshot to Canvas so they will know when you came to the Writing Center and what you talked about during your appointment.

What should I bring and what kinds of questions should I ask in the session?

If you have a draft of your paper, we encourage you to attach it to your appointment questionnaire. Your tutor will review it in preparation for you appointment. If you haven’t written anything yet, that’s ok too! During the appointment, we can address whatever concerns you have about your paper. It’s up to you what to discuss during the appointment—whether that’s just brainstorming, your thesis, paragraph transitions, or whatever else you may be concerned about. Keep in mind that we are not just here to edit your paper—we are here to help you become a better writer.

What if none of the Writing Center’s hours are convenient for me?

Consider using our online tutoring services if none of the in-person appointments fit your schedule. Know that our tutors add new appointments throughout the week, so make sure you check back for new openings often. If you cannot schedule an online meeting with a tutor, consider signing up for Written Feedback (No Meeting). Learn more about your appointment options. If you need any other scheduling help, please contact us at writingcenter@usu.edu.

How do I cancel an appointment?

You can cancel an appointment by emailing the writing center at writingcenter@usu.edu or by logging back in to where you made the appointment and clicking "cancel this appointment." You can log in here.
