Freelance Editors

This directory lists editors who have expressed a desire to take on freelance editing work. Any contract for work is between you and the editor. The Writing Center does not accept any responsibility for the result of such contracts.

Matt Beardmore

As an English tutor, college English and Communications instructor, and a dissertation editor, Matt has been helping students achieve their academic goals for nearly two decades. As the founder of the Dissertation Editing Lab, Matt specializes in dissertations, theses, journal articles, CVs, and other academic documents. He is well-versed in APA and Chicago Manual of Style, and ensures students’ work also adheres to university, college, or departmental guidelines. Matt’s effectiveness as an editor is a direct result of his nearly 25 years of writing experience. A graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, Matt has written for ESPN The Magazine, ESPN.com, and the Chicago Tribune, contributed travel-related blog posts and articles for the New York Times, written parenting and psychology blogs, and crafted technology proposals for nearly a decade for a global IT company.

Madison Neuner

Madison has a Bachelor's degree in English from Utah State University and a Master's of Professional Studies in Publishing from George Washington University. She worked as a tutor and supervisor for the Utah State University Writing Center for six years. Madison also completed a writing and editing internship for the Liahona magazine—a monthly print and digital publication produced by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Madison currently works for the Utah State Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning department as a thesis and dissertation editor. She also works as a doctoral writing center specialist at Westcliff University, a private university in California. As an editor, Madison has had the privilege to perform different types of editing on a wide variety of manuscripts and is prepared to help get your project successfully to completion.

Ellie Andrews

Ellie is a freelance editor specializing in dissertations and theses in the social sciences and humanities (psychology, education, comparative literature, history, and more). She earned her PhD and development sociology from Cornell University, where she also tutored and taught writing for several years. She has edited hundreds of manuscripts for students, faculty, scientific organizations, and professionals, including both native and non-native speakers of English. Services provided include line editing/copyediting, proofreading, formatting, and developmental editing. Find out more here.

Caitlin Houlihan-Kawamoto

Caitlin attained a Master of Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and worked in a variety of settings including laboratories at GlaxoSmithKline, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Harvard. She authors and edits in-house or external projects for biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, as well as for other small businesses and startup companies. Caitlin is also experienced in authoring and editing academic publications.  She looks forward to working with you on your projects.
