Biography

Rebecca Farmer is a sophomore pursuing a Bachelors of the Arts in Music with an Emphasis in Composition and a minor in Entrepreneurship.

Becca enjoys hiking and reading various genres of literature to draw inspiration for new projects. She additionally has been fond of reading memoirs and listening to podcasts as she enjoys hearing peoples stories and how they found their voice. Becca enjoys accompanying vocalists and and playing with bands when she has the chance.

Becca participates in USU’s Youth Conservatory program as a private piano teacher and piano lab assistant. She is a member of Utah Music Teachers Association as well as Music Teachers National Association. Becca worked on multiple commissions as a freshman. The first project began in November 2021 creating the music for Stephanie White’s masters thesis choreographed dance, in length being 15 minutes worth of modern and traditional Hebrew dance. The second project started in February 2022, she creates the background music for a radio show “How’d You Think of That” with Temple Grandin by the Stem Action Center being broadcasted on Utah Public Radio and NPR. During the summers, Becca attends Junior Composers Institute as a composer and administrator.

Becca received the Bella Ballroom Excellence in the Performing Arts Scholarship and the Honors “Dare to Know” book award her first year. Since she has received the Andrew Watts Saxton Make it All Better Scholarship, the Hubbard Family Scholarship, and now the Morse Scholarship. Becca received the Eric Stokes Grant to use for the production of her concert in April 2023 where her compositions will be performed. For her capstone project, she is currently interested in researching how computer generated music, programming and AI, affects the role of the composer and how it changes the music industry, and may create a project based on this research. Becca could also have a concert of her compositions being performed, or score a short film. After graduating from USU, she plans to attend a composition program for graduate school. Long term, Becca strives to live a life full of learning and is devoted to helping others reaching the same aspirations.
