Biography

Recognized for her success in performances, Valerie McGeean has been hailed to be grounded in her artistry, knowing what she wants to communicate to her audience. She recently gave an hour-long solo recital in the Russell-Wanlass Performance Hall, which featured many classical styles. She is currently an undergraduate pursuing a degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at Utah State University under Dr. Cahill Smith. Over the last few years, she received honorable mentions from both USU’s Pianofest in 2021 and UMTA’s Performance Evaluations in 2021. She also received Superior ratings in Federation in both 2021 and 2022. During Fall of 2021 Valerie took second place and MTA’s Young Artist Piano Competition. Valerie seeks to strengthen both her skills as a soloist and collaborator, believing that one isn’t a well-rounded musician only be exposing oneself solely to his instrument, but he becomes well-rounded when he speaks the language of other instrumentalists. She believes that music is a part of every human being and seeks to help those around her to find a personal connection with the art. As a teacher in the Youth Conservatory at USU, Valerie hopes to equip her students will the skills necessary to pursue music for a lifetime. Throughout her teaching and performances, she aspires to leave individuals with a desire to make music a part of their daily lives. She believes music is a constant and that the relationship with it reflects one’s perspective on life.
