Biography

Ginny Bastian has always had a deep love for music and the ability it has to change lives. At the age of 5, she started her journey of studying the piano. She demonstrated exceptional skill and talent, and was able to further her growth by studying more seriously at the age of 12. Throughout her years of experience, she has studied under various accomplished mentors, such as Douglas Guiles in the Greater Laurel Music Teachers Association. She also was able to participate in many National Piano Guild events, and has been a member of the National Guild since the age of 12. She has been trained classically, and loves performing a variety of composers and time periods. Ginny also enjoys the challenge of learning and expanding her capacity to play at higher levels. In doing so, she worked hard to excel in the competitions and performances she participated in. She placed highly in many of those competitions, and won opportunities to perform with orchestras, as well as the composer Alexander Peskanov. She works hard to put her whole self into the music, recognizing the power it has to speak to minds and hearts. She enjoys performing as a soloist, in addition to accompanying a variety of other instruments. Ginny enjoys being active in many community events as well. She accompanied her local highschoolâ??s orchestra, show choir, and musicals. She is an active member in her congregationâ??s choir, acting as their accompanist. She also had the opportunity to serve as the organist in her congregation for most of her highschool years.

Throughout her time of studying, she also had the opportunity to teach piano. She enjoyed watching her students find the joy of music as they progressed. Ginny has a deep desire to hone her skills as an accomplished pianist, but also as an educator. She has experienced the power that a passion, hard work, and dedication can have in your life! She has been forever changed by her past mentors, and wants to be able to help future students feel confident and excited about their musical careers, just as her past mentors helped her to feel. Ginny loves the piano, and she is excited to help others experience the same joy and happiness that comes through the art of music.

Teaching Philosophy: Musical Enjoyment and Fulfillment: I believe that music has the capacity to bring much joy and fulfillment to our lives. Especially in young students, music can enhance the way they think, learn, and grow. I strongly believe that when learning music, we should be enjoying it! I aim to help my students find that enjoyment when learning the piano. I hope to help them learn problem-solving skills, resiliency, and expand their knowledge on classical repertoire. I hope to help them feel successful and accomplished as they grow their skills. I also hope to help them find joy in expressing themselves through music, which is truly a beautiful thing we each have the opportunity to participate in. Teaching Environment and Work Ethic: My goal as a teacher is to create a safe, fun, welcoming, and hard-working environment. I want students to feel comfortable working with me and bringing up concerns, but I also want them to feel that a high-standard of work is expected! I believe that hard work pays off, and as students are willing to practice, they will be able to grow and learn at a much faster rate. I want them to have fun as they learn as well! I will do my best to provide a wide variety of teaching styles that will tend to each student's individual needs to learn.

Equality and Respect: I will respect, love, care for, and strive to give the best quality teaching I can give to each student who approaches my studio. I will value each one and tailor my teaching to their individual needs in order to help them grow to be the best musician they can be. Each student has the capacity to do amazing things and I aim to help them along that path.
