USU Youth Conservatory Policy Agreement

Tuition Policy

YC Tuition is used in the following ways:

  • to support performance events for YC students
  • to pay teachers who have completed the required pedagogy courses
  • to pay for administrative staff for bookkeeping and other office work
  • to pay for teaching materials for private lessons and group classes
  • to pay for teacher development conferences, as well as pedagogical training through visiting artists and masterclasses  
  • to support YC students in financial need through merit scholarships

Tuition is due in full upon registration. An invoice will be sent by email, payments can be made online. If after three weeks tuition has still not been paid, lessons will be terminated. The YC reserves the right to terminate a child’s enrollment at any time if it is determined to be in the best interest of the child and the YC. In such a case, a pro rata portion of the tuition is refunded. 

Student/Parent Expectations

  • Ensure student arrives to lessons and classes on time and prepared with the materials assigned by the teacher
  • Students in private lessons should practice a minimum of 30 minutes daily
  • Students in private lessons should participate in YC events outlined on calendar including Monster Concert, PianoFest, & AIM testing

Cancellation & Tardiness Policy

  • Lessons canceled by the instructor will always be made up.
  • Lessons canceled by the student or parent without 24-hour notice will not be made up.
  • All make-up lessons should be scheduled with teacher directly.
  • Teachers are required to wait a minimum of 10 minutes for a late student. After 10 minutes, the lesson can be canceled without a requirement for a make-up lesson.
  • Students who withdraw from the Youth Conservatory within the first two weeks of the Fall or Spring semester are eligible for a tuition refund. After this two-week period, no tuition refunds will be issued.

YC Teacher Expectations

  • Complete the required USU employee trainings and pass background check
  • Attend YC teacher meetings
  • Prepare YC students for events including UMTA Performance Evaluations, Monster Concert, PianoFest, and AIM
  • Attend and help run all YC events listed on the YC calendar
  • Be an active member of the USU chapter of UMTA

Availability:
All YC teachers must be available for in-person participation for the full duration of all scheduled events listed on the YC calendar

YC teacher pay begins at $15/hour. Teachers can apply for a pay increase at any time. YC students can only join a private studio once the teacher has graduated from the USU piano program. Recruitment of YC students into private studios before graduating may result in dismissal from the program. Only students registered in the Youth Conservatory can have lessons on campus.
