USU's Science Unwrapped Demands 'Show Me the Data' in New Series
Hosted by USU's College of Science, Science Unwrapped features family friendly presentations and hands-on learning activities all ages can enjoy together.
When it comes to science, how do we know what we know? New information is discovered each day and, as tempting as it is to jump to conclusions, scientists counsel patience in carefully analyzing data. That journey, though sometimes tedious, often yields surprises.
Utah State University’s Science Unwrapped public outreach program embarks on its new, spring 2016 “Show Me the Data” series Friday, Jan. 29, with scholars from a variety of disciplines, who’ll describe the challenges and fun of the scientific process.
“We welcome our community to experience this fascinating series,” says Nancy Huntly, Science Unwrapped chair, director of USU’s Ecology Center and professor in the Department of Biology. “Our presentations offer something for everyone.”
Hosted by USU’s College of Science, Science Unwrapped welcomes inquiring minds of all ages to its family friendly presentations.

- Friday, Jan. 29, What is Organic and Sustainable Agriculture, Anyway? — Soil scientist Jennifer Reeve, associate professor in USU’s Department of Plants, Soils and Climate and the USU Ecology Center
- Friday, Feb. 26, Life is Short, But Snakes are Long — Herpetologist Andrew Durso, doctoral student in USU’s Department of Biology and the USU Ecology Center
- Friday, March 18, Everything We Know About Dinosaurs...is Wrong? — Visiting science writer Brian Switek, Science That Rocks, Salt Lake City
- Friday, April 15, Artificial Intelligence: Too Late to Stop Robot Apocalypse? — Mathematician David Brown, associate professor in USU’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics
Each presentation begins at 7 p.m. in the Emert Auditorium, Room 130, of the Eccles Science Learning Center on USU’s Logan campus. Admission is free.
Initiated by the college in February 2009, Science Unwrapped introduces science in a relaxed, entertaining manner. Presentations begin with a brief lecture, followed by learning activities and refreshments. Each event draws several hundred guests, with attendees ranging from preschoolers to senior citizens.
