USU-Uintah Basin Celebrates 50th Anniversary

USU President Noelle Cockett addresses the audience at the 50th Anniversary Gala.

This year, 2017, Utah State University-Uintah Basin reached a 50-year milestone of providing higher education to the local community. To celebrate the momentous event, USU-Uintah Basin held a heritage gala to recognize founders, benefactors and community partners.

“It was impressive and humbling to see in person how many people and organizations have worked together to make this campus such a success in the Uintah Basin,” said USU President Noelle Cockett. “We have been blessed immensely to have such wonderful people working to make sure this campus developed into an institution providing needed education to locals so they could build a better life from a college degree.”

Kyle Snow, the USU-Uintah Basin Advisory Council chair, welcomed all attendees to the event. Duchesne county-raised artist A.D. Shaw unveiled one of his largest paintings to-date to be hung in the Roosevelt student services building. Student Brandt Emery then supplied musical entertainment during the dinner. The campus advisory council honored the founders and benefactors of the campus, and that was followed by a recognition of community partners from Executive Director James Taylor.

According to Taylor, USU-Uintah Basin would have never become the institution it is today without the continued support of key community partners.

“This campus has been built on a foundation of community organizations, businesses and individuals who believed the Uintah Basin needed higher education. There are many to thank for our past, present and future growth.”

Mike Christiansen and members of the Uintah Basin Orchestra and Chorus performed USU’s alma mater hymn, accompanied by Alisha Gowen, a USU-Uintah Basin student. After the performance, Cockett addressed the group, with Snow providing closing remarks.
