Join the Global Aggie Community During International Education Week

Every year the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education celebrate global education during International Education Week, held across the nation at university campuses, during the third week of November. The Utah State University Office of Global Engagement and the International Student Council co-present International Education Week, November 12 through November 17, with multiple departments, colleges and organizations hosting international events throughout the week. 

“As we build a more inclusive, global Utah State University, we invite you to become involved by attending events during the week,” says Janis Boettinger, vice provost and director of the Office of Global Engagement. 

INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK EVENTS 

Monday 12 
Around the World Night

  • Join the Office of Global Engagement, the International Student Council and several student clubs and organizations in representing the global community at Utah State University. Enjoy international food tasting, a fashion show, and cultural activities.  
    • Time:   5:30-7:30 p.m.
    • Place:  TSC, International Lounge
    • FREE  

Tuesday 13 
Mindfulness and Meditation 

  • Join Dr. Zhen Li, from Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), for a session on mindfulness and meditation. 
    • Time: 5-6:30 p.m.
    • Place: TSC, Room 310B

Men's Basketball International Student Night

  • Utah State vs Mississippi Valley State 
    • Time: 7:00 p.m.
    • Place: Dee Glen Smith Spectrum 
    • Free to students with I.D. card. Tickets for the public available to purchase online.

Wednesday 14
Global Focus Hours

  • Join the International Studies Club for a global discussion on current international issues. 
    • Time: 6:30 p.m. 
    • Place: Merrill-Cazier Library, Room 405
    • FREE

Rodell Rosel, The Singer... as Performer

  • Manila native Rodell Rosel is a guest of many major U.S. opera companies including the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Metropolitan Opera. Hosted by the Caine College of the Arts, Rodell Rosel's concert is free to the public to enjoy. 
    • Time: 7:30-9:30 p.m.  
    • Place: Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall

Thursday 15
Meet a Foreign Service Officer - Scott Ficklin 

  • Ficklin is a second-tour consular officer serving in Seoul, Korea, and a USU alumnus. He will give a short overview of his personal history, the process of entering the Foreign Service and his professional experience before a question and answer session.
  • This event is co-hosted by the Office of Global Engagement and College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Free pizza is provided while it lasts.

The Yogi as an Artist - a Short Meditation 

  • Presenter(s): Camille Litalien, Director Yoga Studies Program, and Peter Francyk, Faculty Yoga Minor Program, Department of Kinesiology and Health Science

Latinx Cultural Center Fall Speaker - José Roach Orduña

  • Special guest speaker, José Roach Orduña, will read an excerpt from his book, “The Weight of Shadows: A Memoir of Immigration & Displacement,” followed by a Q&A session.

    • Author reception and book signing will follow the speaking event.

Study Abroad Pop-up Advising

  • Peer advisor Libbey Hanson will be in the TSC by the USU Campus Store, offering advice on study abroad programs, scholarships and more.

Mini Language Lessons -IELISA

  • Join Intensive English Language Institute Student Association (IELIESA) for mini language lessons in Chinese, Portuguese, and more. Each mini session will take 10 minutes.

International Film Night

  • Enjoy study abroad student-produced videos prior to the screening of “Spirited Away,” Academy Award Winner for Best Animated Feature in 2003.

  • Join the International Student Council for a talent show on Saturday evening.
