Double Treble
The Department of Music at Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University presents “Double Treble,” a concert featuring the USU Flute Choir and USU Women’s Choir. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. April 22 at the Performance Hall on USU’s Logan campus.
The USU Flute Choir is a non-auditioned group composed of music majors and non-majors who enjoy playing chamber music for piccolo, C flute, alto flute, bass flute and contrabass flute.
The first set will feature arrangements for flute and harp with harpist Carly Ewell.
“This rare opportunity makes it possible to program the beautiful interlude from ‘L’enfance du Christ,’ an oratorio by Hector Berlioz,” said Leslie Timmons, associate professor in the music department and director of the flute choir. “We’ll also play three Korean folk songs by Kelly Via in the first set.”
The second set includes a trio by Russian composer Alexander Tcherepnin and “Walk Like This!” by British flutist and composer Ian Clarke. The piece features many extended techniques, in which the flutists are asked to speak parts in rhythm and play non-traditional sounds like clicking keys and overblowing for a powerful jet whistle.
Tickets for “Double Treble” are $10 general admission, $8 seniors and youth, $5 faculty and staff and free for USU students with valid ID.
