NEHMA Hosts October Family Art Day in the Merrill-Cazier Library

The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art (NEHMA) at Utah State University is continuing its Family Art Days program this fall. Family Art Days will take place in the Merrill-Cazier Library on the USU Logan campus while the museum is closed for construction and renovation.

The next Family Art Day will take place Saturday, Oct. 28, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Merrill-Cazier Library. This event is taking place off-schedule on the fourth Saturday to accommodate USU’s fall break a week earlier. This FAD event marks the museum’s move back to the library from the Cache Valley Gardeners’ Market where it was held during the summer months.

The theme for this upcoming event is “Telling a Spooky Story – With Art!” October’s Family Art Day has been created to coincide with the library’s exhibition “Memento Mori: The Art of Death and Mourning.” This exhibition features artistic iconographies surrounding the themes of death and dying. Although Halloween is approaching, never fear, NEHMA and Merrill-Cazier staff will work to keep October’s programming family-friendly for all ages.

Family Art Days are free and open to the public. These family-friendly events provide a creative outlet and learning opportunities that everyone can enjoy. Following October’s event, the Family Art Days will continue on a monthly basis on the third Saturday of each month with the next event taking place November 18 in the USU library.

“We are excited to continue our partnership with library to offer our monthly Family Art Day program while we undergo a renovation and expansion,” said NEHMA Executive Director, Katie Lee-Koven. “This free community event is a great way to get out of the house and do a creative activity with your family.”

NEHMA is located on the USU Logan Campus. The Museum is currently closed for construction but will continue to host events such as Family Art Days at other venues like the Merrill-Cazier Library. See the museum’s website (artmuseum.usu.edu) to stay up to date on NEHMA’s events.
