13 Aggies Earn Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference Honors

Utah State Track & Field had 13 Aggies earn a total of 15 all-Mountain West honors following the 2018 MW Outdoor Championships. Athletes earn all-conference honors by finishing in the top three of an event.

On the men's side, senior David Hirschmann earned a pair of honors, as he defended his discus title with a throw of 55.20 meters (181-1) and placed second in the shot put with a personal-best toss of 17.81m (58-5.25). 

On the women's side, junior Brenn Flint was USU's other two-time honoree, as she claimed the shot put crown with a throw of 16.65m (54-7.5) and placed second in the discus with a personal-best throw of 52.79m (173-2).

For single honorees on the men's team, seniors Clay Lambourne and Jordan Beutler placed first and second in the 800m run with times of 1:47.96 and 1:49.08, respectively. Senior Dillon Maggard placed second in the 5,000m race with a time of 13:55.85, and senior Spencer Fehlberg took second in the 3,000m steeplechase, clocking in at 9:02.74. 

In the field, junior Sam Nelson won the pole vault by clearing a height of 5.00m (16-4.75), while sophomore Sindri Gudmundsson defended his javelin crown with a championship-record throw of 78.14m (256-4). Sophomore Kyle Morris joined Gudmunsson with javelin all-conference honors as he placed third in the event with a throw of 62.01m (203-5). 

On the women's side, junior Cierra Simmons won the 3,000m steeplechase with a school-record time of 9:56.60, and senior Tylee Newman-Skinner placed third in the 1,500m with a school record of her own, finishing in 4:23.99. In the field, senior Mia Estes placed second in the javelin with a throw of 48.33m (158-7), and senior Olivia Moriconi joined Flint on the shot put podium by placing second with a throw of 16.28m. 

Utah State is back in action on Thursday, May 24, when it will send individuals to the NCAA West Preliminaries in Sacramento, Calif.
