USU's Research Week Seeks Attendees for Series of Events April 8-12

Utah State University will celebrate its 15th annual Research Week on April 8-12. Research Week highlights USU faculty and students and their research efforts from the past year. This year’s schedule of events features an expanded Student Research Symposium and public awards ceremonies.

Research Week’s inaugural event is the D. Wynne Thorne Lecture, where last year’s D. Wynne Thorne Career Research Award recipient, English Professor Joyce Kinkead, will discuss her career and involvement with research. The lecture takes place Monday, April 8, at 2:30 p.m., in the south atrium of the Merrill-Cazier Library. 

Immediately following the lecture is the USU Faculty Research Awards Ceremony. Replacing past years’ Research Awards Gala, the event will be open to the public and will recognize the winner of this year’s D. Wynne Thorne Career Research award, as well as the faculty researchers of the year from each college. The ceremony begins at 3:30 p.m. in the library’s south atrium.

Tuesday, April 9, the Faculty Mentor Breakfast will honor exceptional faculty who mentor graduate and undergraduate students in their research. At this event, the USU Undergraduate Research Faculty Mentor of the Year will be announced and recognized. The breakfast takes place at 8 a.m. in Haight Alumni House and is by invitation only. 

Later that day, the Faculty Author Exhibition highlights the books USU faculty have published in the last year, and will include brief presentations by three of the authors. The books will be available to view and check out. The exhibition is open to the public and will take place at 3:30 p.m. in the library New Books Lounge. 

The Student Research Symposium is USU’s largest event of its kind, is expanding from one to two days, Wednesday and Thursday, April 10-11, of Research Week. Nearly 400 students from all disciplines will present oral and poster presentations, as well as music performances and art exhibits. All sessions are open to the public. 

Research Week ends with the Student Research Awards Ceremony Friday, April 12 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. This ceremony is open to the public and honors students who have received recognition as college Undergraduate, Master’s and Doctoral Researchers of the Year. A closing reception will follow the ceremony.
