USU's Blanding Campus Receives Funding for Sexual Violence Prevention

Utah State University Blanding will receive up to $15,000 to support new sexual violence prevention programs on the campus. The Blanding campus was chosen to participate in the American Public Health Association and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of Violence Prevention’s Campus Sexual Assault Prevention Action Planning Program. 

The effort will be led by a coordinating team that includes university staff at the Blanding campus, Title IX staff based at the Logan campus, the Utah Department of Health Violence Prevention Coordinator, and the Utah Coalition Against Sexual Assault Assistant Director/Director of Training & Education.

Utah State’s application emphasized the need for increasing resources at the Blanding campus in order to build prevention programs. Although the university’s main campus staff and San Juan County community members and agencies have facilitated trainings and been guest speakers about sexual violence at the Blanding campus, such efforts need to happen more consistently. The coordinating team intends to use the program funding for student interns focused on prevention, keynote speakers and marketing and awareness efforts tailored to the Blanding campus.

The goal of the Campus Sexual Assault Prevention Action Planning Program is to strengthen capacity and provide support for states to plan programs or strategies based on the best available evidence to prevent campus sexual assault at institutions that serve high concentrations of minority students. The Blanding campus is part of the Native American-Serving Nontribal Institutions Program.
