Field Training (FT)

FT is a training course designed to develop and assess the leadership capabilities of up-and-coming Air Force ROTC General Military Course (GMC) cadets. FT is typically attended in the summer between a cadet's sophomore and junior year, and lasts about 3 weeks. You'll be sent to an Air Force base (transportation expenses and subsistence allowance are provided) to continue your training in an intensive environment that provides concentrated training in leadership, followership, drill and ceremonies, customs and courtesies, and officership. Cadets will also participate in small arms and survival training.
Upon successful completion of FT, cadets will return as Professional Officer Course (POC) cadets. POC cadets are responsible for increased leadership roles within the AFROTC detachments, including leading GMC cadets and planning activities, providing extremely practical real-world leadership experience. POC cadets have the opportunity to exercise all of their knowledge from their time as a GMC cadet, and from their experiences at PT, during their junior and senior years.
