Team Awards
Bingham research team awards are given at the end of each year to recognize team members for outstanding effort and accomplishments. Winners get their photo on this web page and have the privilege of proudly displaying their award trophy in their office for the entire year. Congratulations, award winners!

Clean and Safe Award
This award is given to a team member who shows a strong commitment to safety and/or who who works hard to keep laboratory and field spaces neat and clean. At the end of each year, the recipient for that year chooses someone to be the recipient for the following year.
2026 Winner: Quinten Baldwin, for being Clean and Tidy in his coding technique! Clean, tidy code with very few, if any, mistakes. A sharp and clean code is really an artform. Excellent work!

Great Person We Appreciate Award
This award is given to a team member who has done work that is above and beyond what is normally expected, and that has really helped our team succeed. At the end of each year, the recipient for that year chooses someone to be the recipient for the following year.

Publications Award
This award is given to the team member with the most peer-reviewed publication "points" for the year. Points for the award are calculated as follows: each first-author publication is given four points, each paper first-authored by a student faculty member mentored is given 3 points, and any other co-author publication is given one point.

July 2025: Michael Davies Awarded AWMA Great Basin Chapter Scholarship
The AWMA Great Basin Chapter Scholarship is designed to support students who are pursuing careers in air quality, waste management, environmental policy, or sustainability. The scholarship is awarded to students based on their academic performance, career goals, and involvement in related activities, while also providing a free one-year student membership to AWMA. The scholarship aims to encourage and recognize students who are committed to making meaningful contributions to environmental protection and decision-making.

April 2023: Brant Holmes Awarded The USU-Uintah Basin Undergraduate Researcher Of The Year
Brant has been doing great work for our team, and it was recognized by the USU-Uintah Basin campus at the commencement awards luncheon. Brant worked on field projects to understand emissions from oil and gas and lab projects related to air-snow exchange of organic compounds.

April 2022: Seth Lyman Awarded The USU-Uintah Basin Faculty Researcher Of The Year
Seth was designated the USU-Uintah Basin campus's faculty researcher of the year.

July 2020: Tyler Elgiar Awarded The USU-Uintah Basin Undergraduate Researcher Of The Year
The annual USU awards luncheon was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, but Tyler received this award and a gift basket from James Taylor, our campus director, and Bob Peterson, our director of student services. Tyler has been involved in research involving wildlife science, winter ozone, and atmospheric mercury, and has presented his research at conferences around the world. He graduated in May but will continue with our team as he pursues a master's degree in Toxicology.

March 2020: Seth Lyman Named The Utah Clean Air Partnership's Person Of The Year
Seth received the award at the UCAIR annual summit. Read more in the this article, or watch a video about the award.

February 2020: Makenzie Holmes Was One Of Only Six Usu Undergraduates Selected To Present Her Research At The State Capitol
Read more about Makenzie's work here. She also received a prestigious URCO award from USU in 2018, and was the Uinta Basin campus undergraduate researcher of the year in 2019.

May 2019: Environmental Health And Safety Award From The Vernal Chamber Of Commerce
Our team received the Vernal Area Chamber of Commerce Environmental Health and Safety Award in May 2019 for our work to improve air quality in the Uinta Basin.
