Jace Colby's internship with the East Canyon State Park

In the summer of 2022, CAS trainee Jace Colby interned with the East Canyon State Park under the mentorship of Chris Haramoto. As an intern, Jace studied the harmful algae blooms (HABs) in Utah. 

Jace's research found that a nearby culvert acted as a filter, that upstream land change contributed to HAB presence, and that recent changes had led to the first year without a HAB in 5 years!
