Kaeli Mueller's CAS Internship with UC Davis and the USDA's Forest Service
March 29, 2022

In the summer of 2021, CAS trainee Kaeli Mueller interned with UC Davis and the Forest Service under the mentorship of Dr. Hugh Safford.
As an intern, Kaeli identified areas of unburned chaparral to assess accuracy of current fire severity maps derived from satellite imagery. She produced a GIS spatial layer of unburned chaparral, sampled 330 locations in the field for vegetation id and burn severity, and generated confusion matrix to determine the success of imagery classification.
While working as an intern, Kaeli gained skills in Google Earth Pro, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Collector, statistical analyzation, post-fire vegetation measurements, and accuracy assessment survey.
