Connections Summer Assignment

If you are taking a pre-semester version of Connections

Your first assignments are due before class starts on August 21, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. To complete them:

Log into Canvas

Log into Canvas (starting August 12, 2024) at https://canvas.usu.edu and click on your USU 1010 class. Click on "Welcome to Connections - USU 1010" and then use the "next" buttons at the bottom of the page.

Submit your Waiver

Complete your "Informed Consent and Permission for Participation" waiver and submit. You won't be able to continue until this is done.

Complete your Pre-Course Survey

When you get to the "Pre-Class Survey" assignment, click on the link and complete the pre-course survey. When you complete the survey, you will be given an individual completion code that you will enter in the quiz for points.

Complete the Pre-Class Readings and Assignment

Download your copy of Becoming a Learner from the bookshelf tab in Canvas, as well as the essay "Habits of Mind and the University Degree" from the assignment prompt. You will want to read the assignment prompt prior to reading the book and essay so you can take notes for your reflection.

Submit your Paper

Complete and submit your response as outlined in the assignment. Upload your paper to Canvas by August 21, 2024 at 9:00 a.m.

If you are taking a 7-week or athlete version of Connections

Your first assignment will be due during the semester. Pay close attention to emails from your instructor regarding any pre-semester requirements.

Additional Information

Too often students begin college without a clear understanding of the purpose of higher education. As a result, many students will miss important learning opportunities. Becoming a Learner challenges students to carefully reconsider conventional common sense about college and learning, and invites them to consider a new conversation about college and learning that focuses on who they are becoming and their ability to learn.
