About This Degree

The Aviation Technology – Unmanned Aircraft Systems AS degree prepares students to become certified, industry-ready remote pilots and introduces them to an aviation mindset through hands-on experience with fixed-wing and multirotor aircraft.

Students learn to fly, maintain, program, and repair unmanned aircraft while gaining skills in mission planning, data collection, and real-world drone applications.

What You Will Learn

Students in the program develop the knowledge and skills needed to operate unmanned aircraft safely and professionally across a wide range of real-world environments.

They learn to fly, maintain, and repair both fixed-wing and multirotor aircraft while building a strong foundation in aviation principles, mission planning, and operational decision-making.

Coursework introduces students to the federal rules and evolving operational standards shaping the drone industry, giving them a clear, practical understanding of how airspace, safety requirements, and compliance expectations influence real-world higher-risk operations. Through hands-on flight labs, project-based assignments, and community-engaged experiences, students gain practical experience in data collection, imagery, mapping, and other applications. This combination of technical training and applied fieldwork prepares graduates to step confidently into a rapidly growing profession and continue into advanced aviation coursework.
