Scholarships

Where Your Hard Work Pays Off. Literally.

With scholarships for a wide range of achievements, your dedication can help lower the cost of college. Review our three categories of scholarships at Utah State and apply for them all!

1) Academic Scholarships

This is the point where excellent grades and test scores help you save on tuition. When you apply for admission to USU, you are automatically considered for academic scholarships. Merit-based awards consider mutliple factors such as high school GPA, ACT/SAT test scores, or course rigor.

Academic Scholarships

2) Non-academic Scholarships

This is where your personality and uniqueness shine (and help pay for school). Unlike academic awards where you are automatically considered when you apply to USU, non-academic scholarships require separate applications and have varying deadlines. Review them often and apply early!

Alumni

Students who have a family legacy may be eligible for specific alumni awards.

Ambassador Program

This organization focuses on leadership development and service-learning while promoting Aggie pride.

Campus Specific

Scholarships are available to students attending specific USU campuses statewide.

Involvement

Be rewarded for leadership roles, extracurricular activities, and school or community involvement.

Utah State Promise

Utah residents who qualify may have their tuition and fees covered up to four years.

Native American Student

Students registered with federally recognized tribes in and around Utah may have tuition and fees covered.

Non-academic Scholarships

3) General Scholarships

Once you’re admitted, submit the USU General Scholarship Application. As an admitted student, you may be matched to even more institutional and private scholarship opportunities.

Federal Aid

Federal Financial Aid Opportunities

In addition to scholarships, federal financial aid such as grants, loans, and work-study can help bridge the gap between your finances and what's needed to accomplish your academic goals. USU also has federal aid counselors who can help explain your options.

FAFSA

To receive federal financial aid—including grants, loans, or work-study—you must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the published deadlines.

Here's what you'll need to get started:

  1. Create a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID to access and sign the FAFSA.
    • Your Social Security Number (SSN)
    • A personal email address
    • Your own mobile phone number
    • A dependent student’s parent will also need to create their own FSA ID.

  2.  Use Utah State’s Federal School Code: 003677
    • This code ensures we receive your application for all federal financal aid programs.

Additional step-by-step information is available on our Federal Aid website.

Other Ways to Pay for College

After applying for federal aid, academic and non-academic awards, and submitting the USU General Scholarship Application, here are a couple more ways to help pay for school.

Student Money Management Center

Meet with a free financial coach! Utah State’s Student Money Management Center helps you build a budget, explore ways to save, and feel confident about paying for college. It’s a smart, free resource for students and families looking to take control of their finances and plan for success.

Student Jobs

Utah State employs more than 5,000 students. Because the university is like a small city, there are a ton of jobs to apply for. To easily view and apply for Aggie-only jobs and off-campus employment, use AGGIE Handshake. It is specific to USU students and aggregates all current jobs and internships.

Continuing Student Scholarships

Once you’re an Aggie, you’re automatically set up with a scholarship profile. Just answer a few questions each year using the General USU Scholarship Application about your academics, involvement, and experiences to get matched with scholarships that fit you.
