About This Degree
An Associate of Science (AS) degree in Elementary Education prepares a student interested in a career in education to obtain a degree as they determine the role that best suits their career goals.
This degree can stack into a BA or BS in a chosen teaching major (e.g. Elementary Education or Early Childhood education), transfer into another major, or allow movement into the workforce. The future BA or BS degree leads to a recommendation for Professional License from the Utah State Board of Education to teach in the grade-level or content of the chosen degree.
Students receive an AS by completing all required courses in the degree.
What You Will Learn
This degree provides coursework in basic foundations of education, human development, educational psychology, technology in education, and early childhood as well as general education courses. Elective courses are also available so students may focus on special education, English, psychology, or other topics of interest to future educators as well as courses that support academic success.
Utah State's program in elementary education is unique in that students have the opportunity to be in the classroom starting their first year in the program during AS degree coursework rather than waiting until their junior year, which is typical at other universities.
