Product Creation - AS

S.J. & Jessie E. Quinney College of Agriculture & Natural Resources

About This Degree

The Associate of Science in Product Creation at Utah State University is a two-year, hands-on degree for people who like to make things, and who want to turn their ideas into real, physical products.

Housed in the Department of Product Design & Engineering Technology, the program introduces you through the full creative-to-technical journey of product creation, from a first rough sketch to a finished prototype.

It's built to be flexible: finish in 60 credits and step straight into the workforce with a professional credential or use it as a direct on-ramp into USU's Bachelor of Science in Outdoor Product Design and Development (OPDD). Either way, you'll graduate ready to contribute to a design or manufacturing team in one of Utah's fastest-growing industries.

What You Will Learn

You'll build a foundation in both the creative and technical sides of product design.

Early on, you'll develop your eye and your hand through concept sketching, visual communication, and the fundamentals of design. From there you'll move into the tools professionals actually use; computer-aided design, 2-D and 3-D digital modeling, and industry-standard software like SolidWorks, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, and KeyShot, and put them to work in USU's design studios, maker spaces, and fabrication labs equipped with 3D printers, laser cutters, and large-format printers.

Along the way you'll learn how materials behave, how to prototype and test your ideas, and how to weave sustainability, usability, and real user needs into your designs. Just as importantly, you'll practice presenting your work and collaborating on interdisciplinary teams, so you leave with a portfolio and the communication skills to back it up.
