Accommodated Testing

Make an Exam Reservation

Students taking in-class exams at the Logan Campus should make a reservation to take their exam at the DRC in Logan in order to receive their accommodations. Students at Statewide Campuses who would like to receive their accommodations during in-class should make a reservation at their specific Statewide Testing Center, and contact the Accommodated Testing Coordinator if they have any questions or concerns.

Instructions for Making a Reservation
Use this step-by-step guide to make a reservation at the DRC.

Students making reservations to take an exam at the DRC on the Logan Campus need to make their reservation at least 3 business days in advance to guarantee that the DRC will be able to obtain the exam materials and proctor the exam for them.

Students taking testing center exams should make a reservation at their respective testing center. Accommodations will be provided there.

The video below guides students through the exam reservation process.

Accommodations on Canvas and Proctorio Exams

When quizzes and exams are on Canvas, the time extension accommodation will be applied. Before students open the quiz or exam, there will be no visual indicator on Canvas that the time is adjusted. If the student is concerned about the time extension, they can contact the Accommodated Testing Coordinator at 435-797-0743 before starting the exam to verify the extension is applied.

For students who are approved for audio for exams and want this accommodation on their Canvas exams Read Aloud (a Google Chrome extension) is a helpful option.

If a class is using Proctorio or the exam doesn't need to be proctored (the exam can be taken from home) the student does not need to make arrangements to take the exam in our office or the Testing Center. However, students who are approved for audio for exams and want this accommodation on their Proctorio exams should contact the Accommodated Testing Coordinator to arrange for the accommodation to be set up properly in Proctorio.

Cheating Policy

The Disability Resource Center does not tolerate cheating. If a student is caught cheating in the DRC the student will be asked to stop the exam and the instructor will be notified of the cheating. The student will not be allowed to resume the exam. Refer to Utah State University's cheating policy for more information.

Commonly Asked Questions & Answers

Why do students need to start in-class exams at the same time as the class does?

Doing this helps prevent possible cheating. Students should be on time for their reservation or we may not be able to start the exam. If a student is late we may have to receive permission from the instructor to start the exam after the rest of the class has already started.

What should a student do to use their accommodation for in-class or "pop" style quizzes?

Students who would like to use their accommodation(s) for in class quizzes, students should make a reservation to take the quiz at the DRC. Any questions about this should be directed to the Accommodated Testing Coordinator.

If the quiz is at the beginning of class, the student should start the quiz at the start time of the class. If the quiz is at the end of class, the student should schedule the exam for the approximate time when the class will start taking it. For "pop" quizzes, contact the Accommodated Testing Coordinator at (435) 797-0743 or drctesting@usu.edu and they will coordinate with you and your instructor to ensure you receive your accommodations.

Do students need to coordinate with their instructor in order to take an exam at the DRC?

No. The Accommodated Testing Coordinator and Testing Staff at the DRC will coordinate as needed with instructors in order to be prepared to proctor exams at the DRC.

How do students receive exam accommodations if attending classes at a Statewide Campus?

Students attending classes at a Statewide Campus will receive their accommodations through the DRC. Individual questions about accommodations should be referred to the Accommodated Testing Coordinator.

How do students receive exam accommodations for Finals Week?

If the student has one or more final that will be administered in the classroom, the student can take the exam(s) in our office. Because of the high number of exams we proctor during Finals Week, students should schedule finals with us as early as possible. *Due to the minimal testing space in our office, the student may have finals proctored in a different room. The student will be directed where to go and have accommodations provided. Even though the student may be testing in a different room, DRC Staff will be present to proctor the exams.

*Please note, if the student fails to schedule finals at least three business days in advance, we may be unable to proctor the exam(s) in our office and the student will need to take the exam with the class.

What happens upon completion of an exam at the DRC?

Once the student has completed an exam at the DRC, the proctoring staff will collect all exam materials and return them to the instructor as soon as possible. The student does not need to take any action to get the exam to the instructor. The DRC will return the exam to the instructor on the same day that it is taken whenever possible. The DRC is not responsible for the grading of any exams. Speak with the instructor regarding any questions about when the exam will be graded.
