ETE10 Pathways

ETE10 is aligned with the mission statement of Utah State University "by fostering the principle that academics comes first" and to the mission of the Center for Empowering Teaching Excellence "to elevate and promote our culture of teaching excellence" here at USU. This voluntary program sponsored by Office of the Provost is designed for all instructors, regardless of role statement which includes faculty, lecturers, clinical faculty, professional practice faculty, adjunct instructors, concurrent enrollment, and graduate instructors.

Participants in the ETE10 program earn digital badges, or microcredentials, designed in a three-tiered framework based on documentation of teaching improvement activities, and can earn culminating certificates. These certificates can be used as evidence of ones teaching improvement and dedication to student success.

How it Works

ETE10 is designed to promote continued instructor development through workshops, seminars, conferences, and one-on-one consultations. The "Plan Your Teaching Excellence Pathway" badge is where instructors sit down with an ETE team member and map out their instructor development in ETE10. This assignment identifies an instructor's goals and interests along with the most suited track and recommended events/badges to complete their certificate.

Each Certificate and each track on the Pathway have certain badges that are required. During your "Plan Your Teaching Excellence Pathway" meeting the ETE team member will review these badges and help you make a plan for completing them. These things may have include CIDI Workshops, ETE Learning Circles, Peer Review, Teaching Podcasts, and many more. You can also get a full list of professional development badges offered through the course by accessing the "Submit a Badge" page. However, it will be your responsibility to know and complete these badges to earn your Certificate. You can review what badges are required by going to the Empower Teaching "ETE10 Pathways" page in the Canvas course.

The ETE10 program is designed for instructions to earn digital badges or micro-credentials, in a three-tiered framework documenting the Instructor's teaching improvement activities. Once you've participated in a professional development activity you must decide if your participation warrants an engage, implement or contribute tier badge. Many professional development activities have a badge for all these tiers, however, depending on how you participated in the activity will determine what badge you qualify for. Once you've submitted a badge, it needs to be review by a member of the ETE team. Once ETE checks to make sure all the criteria for the badge are met, the badge will be awarded and can be viewed in your "Badges" tab. Sometimes a badge is missing some of the criteria or a reflection needs further information. If you don't receive a badge or there is a delay in grading, check the submission comments for ETE feedback.

While badges can be awarded at any time during the academic year, certificates are only awarded at the ETE Conference in August. All badges and the ETE10 Certificate Application must be submitted by July 31st to be considered towards receiving your certificate that August. If you have earned your certificate - Explore College Teaching, Teaching for Student Success, Teaching Scholar, Master Teaching - you will be contacted before the August ETE Conference. This e-mail will include a digital copy of the certificate, a letter of completion, and will be copied to your department head. At the Conference, certificate receipts will be honored and given their physical certificates.
