Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) connects academic learning with authentic community needs, giving students opportunities to apply course knowledge and skills beyond the classroom. In a CEL course, students collaborate with a community partner, such as a nonprofit, school, organization, agency, or community group, to create something that is both meaningful to their learning and useful to the partner. These partnerships are reciprocal, benefiting both students and the communities they serve. Through these experiences, students deepen their understanding of course content while developing communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and reflection skills, as well as a sense of civic-mindedness.
