Planning

Utah State University's Planning, Design, and Construction (FPD&C) department develops and maintains the long-term USU Master Plan, guiding the university's physical development to support its academic and strategic goals. To provide detailed guidance for specific areas of the campus, the department also provides master plans for all statewide campuses, additional specialized plans and studies, USU Space Management and database, campus maps, and document storage.

Campus Master Plan

The USU Master Plan was a university wide effort led by the USU UPRPC Committee to develop a long range development plan for the Logan Campus. The Plan defines the campus structure, organization of land uses, and building area requirements necessary to accommodate long range enrollment growth from 14,000 FTE to 26,000 FTE. The plan sets out a development framework based on efficient land use while preserving and enhancing the spatial qualities of the campus. Space projections in major categories of use are included. The plan sets out broad growth management and spatial organization strategies and principles and recommends additional specific planning efforts to address specific areas, site, circulation, and design issues in greater detail. Future planning recommended planning in the following areas: districts/precincts, utilities, transportation, sports/recreation, landscape/open space, and housing. The master plan laid the ground work for the detailed planning efforts that have been accomplished over the last 20+ years.

District Planning Strategy

District (Precinct) Planning has been done on all major areas of campus with a few small exceptions. District plans provide a high level of detail to distinct areas or neighborhoods of the campus, while respecting the original goals and strategies set forth in the Master Plan. The district plans target development goals for short , medium , and long term phases. Each district plan has been done with a high level of engagement from campus and community stakeholders, and has been formally adopted by the UPRPC as a sub set of the Master Plan. District planning may specifically be done alongside feasibility studies for projects on the 5-year plan.
