Value

Approximately $60,000; approximately $15,000 per year for four years
(Pays towards the nonresident portion of tuition charges. Recipients are responsible for resident tuition rates.)

Eligibility

Must be a foreign national admitted to the United States and attended a Utah high school for three or more years.

Conditions

  • This waiver will pay towards undergraduate tuition at Logan or Statewide Campuses (will not pay towards tuition charges for out-of-state online)
  • While enrolled at USU on this waiver, you cannot count the time towards the 12-month residency requirement. You are not able to establish UT residency while on this waiver

Waiver Retention Requirements

  • A 2.0 or greater USU Institutional GPA is required to maintain your waiver
  • This waiver will pay, based upon enrollment (no minimum credit requirement)

Accepting Your waiver

  • Waiver automatically accepted upon enrollment confirmation

Declining Your waiver

  • If you confirm your enrollment to USU but prefer to decline your waiver, email Office of Admissions

Deferral and Notification of Leave

  • Waivers may be held to a future semester for extenuating illness, military, or humanitarian service.
  • Deferment must be processed through the Office of Admissions. A deferral is for admitted students who have not started classes at USU.
  • To hold this waiver, submit a Notification of Leave. A notification of leave is for students who have already attended USU.

Terms of waiver

Student resides in Utah and is eligible for HB144/HB118.

The waiver is applied in consecutive semesters (excluding summer semester) beginning the first term of enrollment at USU unless a Deferment or Notification of Leave has been submitted.  

Any unpaid expenses may result in the loss of their classes. Review payment deadlines.

Tuition can only be covered once. If the student has been offered tuition-based academic waivers or waivers covering in total more than 100% tuition, they will contact Student Financial Support to discuss their options. This waiver is not a cash waiver. After 100% of tuition charges are paid, any remaining balance of this waiver will be not be refunded to the student.

This waiver may be revoked should the student attend another institution of higher education. The student is able to attend another institution of higher education during the summer semester, but attending during the normal academic year (fall/spring) may result in the cancellation of this waiver.
